Some of the most common causes for back pain, especially lower back pain could include: muscle tension, improper diet, lack of physical activity, excessive physical labor, poor sitting posture, missed periods, vaginal discharge or spotting, pregnancy and even cancer. It is common to see most people take over-the-counter painkillers to relieve lower back pain. However, there are a few side effects that are associated with these medicines and therefore, most people prefer natural back pain remedies. 30 NATURAL HOME REMEDIES FOR BACKACHE


1-Mineral pitch/Shilajit, Milk, Honey

In Arthritis treatment, Shilajit helps to relieve severe pain in the joints. It further strengthens the joints to function properly. It aids to increase blood flow in the joints and act as an anti oxidant agent for the joints. Dissolve  Mineral pitch / Mineral wax (Salajeet / Shilajit resin) in Green gram/ Golden gram (Moong dal) size in a cup of hot boilng milk with raw, unpasteurized Honey to taste and drink it lukewarm. it is a fabulous remedy in arthritic issues Rheumatoid Arthritis, OsteoArthritis, gout and various other joint related problems very same time back pain.Start with the minimum dose with a rice to pea sized portion, one to three times a day. Dosage can be increased gradually up to a maximum of 0.5 gram.

2-Flax seeds sweet balls / Alsi Pinni

Alsi Pinni (Flax seeds balls) is a traditional sweet that can be eaten in winters. Store the Pinni in winters and keep on consuming them throughout the weather to keep cough, cold, arthritis and body pain at bay. Linseeds / Flax seeds contains Omega-3 and Omega-6 elements, that control the cholesterol level of your body. It competes almonds and walnut in regards to its medicinal and nutritional properties. Heat the  250 gm ghee (clarified butter) in a frying pan and add the 200 gm sugar or jaggery , pounded or powder then when it is bubbling, add 250 gm flax seeds, dry fried then ground, 250 gr wholemeal Wheat flour (atta) dry fried until light brown. Stir over a low heat for 5 minutes. Break the 100 gm Edible Gums (gond) and roast it in the ghee. The gond will rise up. Fry it until it turns brown and take it out in a separate bowl. Press them with a roller on a plate and grind it. Add 100 gm mixed almonds, pistachios and cashew nuts, roughly pounded 40 gm raisins, Powdered edible gum crystals (gondh) and stir well to mix and fry for five minutes more. Then remove from the heat. Allow to cool and then roll the mixture into small balls. Eat when you like.

3-Tumeric powder, Tomato juice

Mix well a teaspoon of Tumeric powder in a glass of fresh Tomato juice for a great kind of drink and fast relief.

4-Green Turmeric Tea

Brew 2 Green tea bags into a coffee filter along with a tablespoon of Turmeric powder, and a tablespoon of sugar in 12 oz cup take hot green Turmeric tea. This is a highly beneficial and trial treatment of back ache.

5-Vetivert / Cuscus grass, Wheat, Coriander, Sugar Candy

Soak 4 oz of wheat in water overnight. Next morning, Add 2 tsp Vetivert (Cuscus grass / Khus Khus)  powder and 2 tsp Coriander (Dhania) powder in it. Then add one cup of milk and Sugar Candy (Misri) to taste then boil it for a few minutes until it thickens. Eat the mixture twice daily. You can also make a mixture of Vetivert (Cuscus grass / Khus Khus)  powder and Sugar Candy (Misri) in equal amounts and consume it twice daily with a cup of warm milk.

6-Cotton seeds Kernels, Milk

Make a fine powder 20 gm Cotton seeds Kernels (Maghaz Banola) and 10 gm Poppy seeds now add 250 gm milk and sugar to taste boil until thicken and eat it lukewarm before sleep daily for one month. This is a highly beneficial and trial prescription for back pain.

7-Black pepper corns, Cloves, Ginger powder

You can make an herbal tea with 5 Black pepper corns, 5 Cloves and one teaspoon of Ginger powder (Sonth) or consume it in powder form along with lukewarm water. It will be quite beneficial for back pain. 

8-Basil leaves Tea

Add 8 to 10 Basil leaves to one cup of water and boil it until the water is evaporates to half. Let it cool to room temperature and then add a pinch of salt.For mild pain, drink this concoction once daily; for severe pain, do that twice a day. Basil leaves can also come to your rescue when suffering from a backache.

9-Poppy seeds, Sugar candy, Milk

Poppy seeds work wonders as remedy of backache.Grind together 100 gm each of poppy seeds (khus khash) and Sugar candy (misri). Consume two teaspoons of this mixture twice daily, followed by a glass of milk.

10-Ginger, Turmeric Tea

Ginger root and Turmeric root are also good anti-inflammatories. They could be used along with the comfrey. You could make teas with this, Bring 2 cups of water to a boil, and had ½ teaspoon each ground Ginger and ground Turmeric. Reduce to a simmer and let it be for 10-15 minutes. Strain, add honey to taste, and enjoy twice daily. This yields 2 servings.OR take capsules of them Ginger and Turmeric (50/50 mix- heaping TBSP  3 times a day). Turmeric in some warm water reduces inflammation. Ginger reduces inflammation too and destroys salmonella. You can sprinkle both on eggs and vegetables with sea salt.

11-Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is another important ingredient for bone health. Healthy bones contain high levels of hyaluronic acid which lubricate joints. However, as you age, hyaluronic acid production goes down. This contributes to stiff joints. Taking hyaluronic acid can help improve joint stiffness and significantly reduced pain in patients with OA. Take HA powder 1TB 2x a day in water and every month you notice more and more benefits. Be aware that stomach acid neutralizes HA so take on empty stomach. Hyaluronic acid is a protein type substance, and spoils easily. Keep it refrigerated and cold. Make smaller batches that will be used up fairly fast.

12-Hyaluronic acid, Sea Salt,  Distilled water

Mix well 500 mg (slightly heaping 1/2 tsp) of HA plus 9 grams (about 2 tsp) Sea Salt in 500 cc (2 cups) of filtered or distilled water. Take 8 caps in a glass of water 3 times a day on empty stomach. Store in refrigerator. This recipe is for a 150 lb person; adjust dosages according to weight of person. This is a highly beneficial and trial treatise to cure back pain.

13-Methylsulfonyl Methane (MSM)

MSM is rapidly establishing a reputation as a safe, natural effective solution for many types of pain and inflammatory conditions including: degenerative (wear-and-tear) arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic back pain, the claim is that MSM reduces joint pain and inflammation. MSM contains sulfur, which the body needs to form connective tissue. MSM also seems to act as a painkiller by quieting nerve impulses that transmit pain and sulfur is beneficial in fighting arthritis pain. Methylsulfonyl Methane (MSM) is one form of sulfur found in bones. The sulfur compound MSM is found naturally in the body and in animals, fruits, vegetables, and grains. Take 2-3gms of MSM powder daily in drinks and have found it works for creaky knees and stiff finger joints better than anything else.

14-Magnesium Chloride

Take 250 mg of Magnesium Chloride or other similar Magnesium such as Magnesium Citrate or Magnesium Gluconate, the pain goes away completely on the third or fourth day. However most of the intolerable pain goes away in about 30 minutes to an hour. In case magnesium is not available, you can try Sunflower seeds which contain some magnesium. But they take a lot longer to see results - sometimes more than a week.

15-Fish Oil

Fish oil is high in two fatty acids known as DHA and EPA, which help to relieve pain in the joints. Therefore, many people are asked to either increase their intake of fish or take fish oil supplements for back pain relief.

16-Turmeric, Black pepper, Ginger powder, Sesame oil

Make a tea by one teaspoon of Turmeric with ground Black pepper and halve a spoon of Ginger powder in warm water with a few drops of Sesame oil a teaspoon of honey to help getting it down. This works very quickly in the treatment of back pain.

17-Mustard powder

Taking 1/2 tsp of dry Mustard in 1/2 cup of cool water on an empty stomach first thing in the morning before breakfast and take it a couple hours after dinner before go to bed. This is another instant and natural remedy to get rid of back pain. 

18-ACV, Filtered Water, Baking Soda, Honey

Make a drink 2 tbs ACV, 6oz Boling Filtered Water, 1/4 tsp Baking Soda, 1 tsp raw Local Honey, 2 oz Unsweet Fruit Juice (unfiltered Apple Juice) Add baking soda to boiling filtered water and let it fizzle. Once the fizz is over, add your AVC and stir. Add honey and juice (juice is optional). Stir until cool enough to drink. Sip over 30-45 min on an empty stomach. It is a most effective & magical remedy to cure back pain completely. 

19-Turmeric, Black pepper, Cayenne pepper

Mix and fill capsules 1 cup Turmeric / 1-2 Tbsp ground Black pepper / 1/4 cup Cayenne pepper.  Take 4 per day with meal or beverage. It may upset an empty stomach. This treatment will provide relief from back ache.

20-Ginger root, Turmeric, Curry powder, ACV

Steep Ginger root (5-7 slices), Turmeric ½  tsp and Curry powder1/2  tsp, in 10 oz hot water for 5-10 min then add 15 oz cool water and ACV, 3 tbs in water. Drink this mixture throughout the day. This remedy will offer a relief from the back pain soon.

21-Honey,  Apple cider vinegar, Water

Take the ACV tonic twice-daily. This can rebalance your mineral supply and revitalize the body as a whole. 2 tsp honey, 2 tsp apple cider vinegar in 8 to 16 ounces of water 3 times a day cured my arthritis, back pain and allergies.

22-Comfrey Tea

The herb Comfrey is very good to help the bones heal faster. One of its names is "knitbone." It even helps to heal old injuries. Comfrey causes cell proliferation. Many have had broken bones heal in record time using comfrey. Comfrey is also an anti-inflammatory. You can take comfrey root capsules. taking 5-10 capsules of comfrey (root or powder) Or, You can use the leaves to make a tea and drink a couple of cups 3 times a day.

23-White willow bark

White willow bark contains salicin, a close chemical relative of aspirin. According to a German study of 451 people with low back pain, 240 mg a day of willow bark worked better than conventional therapeutic options. Like aspirin, willow bark can cause stomach distress, and it shouldn't be given to children. While it can be taken in a capsule form, I usually opt for the tea version of just about everything.

24-Devil's Claw

Devil's Claw has performed well in trials studying lower back pain; it was most effective for people who had the most severe, radiating pain, with numbness in the extremities. Devil's claw comes in capsule, tincture, and tea form. For inflammation and pain, devil's claw is usually taken in capsule form. Based on the research, a daily dose of devil's claw should provide at least 50 mg of harpagosides per day (the amount of harpagosides in each devil's claw should be indicated on the bottle).

7 APPLICATION REMEDIES FOR BACK PAIN

1-Comfrey leaves poultice

You can use the Comfrey leaves to make a poultice to put on the pained area. (Pour some hot water over the leaves and put the wet mash of leaves into a cloth or paper towel and place over the pained area for a half an hour or so each night.) You can also make a strong comfrey tea and soak a cloth in it and apply it to your back for an hour, several times a day.

2-Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar can be used topically and massage the vinegar straight into the area. It will very beneficial in treatment and it provides immediate relief.

3-Lukewarm Castor Oil

Castor Oil can be massaged into the pained area. Lukewarm Castor Oil applied topically is good for back pain and inflammation.

4-Peppermint essential oil

Peppermint essential oil massaged into the skin as it also helpful for pain.

5-Virgin Coconut Oil

Rubbing a bit of Virgin Coconut Oil or pure coconut oil into the affected area of your back can relieve back pain within minutes. Its great for the skin too!

6-Clove oil

Apply clove oil on spine to relieve chronic back pain, After a couple of days, feel quite limber and experience tremendous relief.

7-Epsom salt bath

Magnesium sulfate, otherwise known as Epsom salts, is high in magnesium, is important for bone growth and regulates the body's pH level. A deficiency of magnesium lowers the ability of the body to absorb and use calcium and phosphorus, which are the two primary bone-building minerals. In case the conditions affecting back pain regular bathing in lukewarm water with Epsom salt proves to be relieving. For a bath, add 2 cups of Epsom salt to warm bath water. Or soak your body in it until the water starts losing heat.

  1. I used to work twelve hours a day, which needed me to sit in the same posture all time throughout. Though there were small coffee breaks in between, I never gave importance to them and was more focussed on completing the work before time. This led to a severe back pain which resisted from going even after taking up heavy doses of medication. Women have lots of work to do that’s why they don’t have enough time to concentrate on their health. I am also a working women and I know the feeling of back pain.
